Ink on a 1973 pocket road map of Germany.

This was the first map-based portrait I produced, exploring the idea of a ‘drawing discipline’ or set of rules, to determine which areas would be inked.

The ‘anchor point’ of this portrait, from which the rest of the figure emanates, is the city of Munich, covering the inside area of the figure’s left eye.
